On January 30th we went to the Yuma Theatre in old downtown to see a concert by the American Highwaymen. We had dinner downtown at one of the local pubs and did some people watching while waiting for the door to the theatre to open. The group is a tribute band to the Highwaymen which was a group comprised of Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, and Kris Kristofferson.

The band play all the hits (which I like to see in a tribute band) and even dressed similar to how the performers dressed. One highlight for me during the concert: After they played a few songs, one of the performers thought that they should introduce themselves. So, they proceeded to shake hands with each other, not introduce the performers to the audience. It got a good chuckle from the audience.

The theatre is a restored theatre from about the 30's or 40's. There were several art-deco embellishments on the walls and ceiling. Here's a picture of one of the decorations on the walls at the front of the theatre.

The weekend of January 23-25 we returned to Show Low. The regular caller for the White Mountain Rim Rompers was out of town, and he called Brian to see if he would call the dance. It's a 5 1/2 hour drive from Yuma to Show Low, but the club was willing to pay Brian enough to cover the travel expenses in addition to the dance. The drive goes up and down the White Mountains and goes through some gorgeous desert views. We had some time on Saturday morning to get reacquainted with the town and stopped to look into some changes to the motorhome while we were there.

Here's a picture of the dancers who came on Saturday evening. It may not look like much, but many of the dancers only come up to Show Low in the summer.

After the dance, we had supper at the Cattlemen's Steak House. It was raining as we left the dance hall and it was still raining when we returned to the hotel. Then overnight, it snowed! We thought that we left that back in Minnesota.

Here's a couple of pictures of the snow that I took at the hotel.

Our poor truck got covered in rain, ice, and then finally snow. Luckily, we had a snow brush given to us by Bob and Jeanine so we could scrape the snow/ice off most of the truck before we left. As we climbed down the mountain range, the temperature started to climb and the snow was mostly gone by the time we got to Payson, which is about 86 miles from Show Low. While driving through Payson, I noticed a sign on a fast-food sign that said "Now Open Later". That didn't exactly make too much sense to me and I got a good chuckle out of it. The truck was very dirty when we returned to Yuma. It got a much-needed bath on Monday morning.

Brian has been asked to do some Plus workshops for the Yuma club on Monday afternoons starting on January 12th in advance of the Yuma Festival in February. There has been at least one square each week and the dancers appreciate the extra floor time with the Plus level dancing.

On Tuesday evenings we have been playing Mexican Train Dominoes at the park's clubhouse. It took a game or two to relearn how to play. At first, there was only enough players for one table, but lately there have been enough players that we have needed two tables. There is lots of laughter during the games.

On Wednesday, January 7th, I was able to get out my sewing machine and some fabric. I had purchased the fabric in Show Low back in October. I cut squares from the five different colors of fabric and made another lab robe quilt top. It was a beautiful sunny day, and it was good to be outside doing something instead of just sitting in a lawn chair or on the couch in the motorhome.

Brian received a note from the club in Show Low asking if he can call a dance for them later this month. The regular caller will be away on vacation, and the club was wondering if he would be able to call. They are willing to help cover some travel expenses so it's back to Show Low, again, for us.

On Sunday, January 11th, as we were heading to the grocery store, we saw a motorcyclist with a side car. Nothing unusual, except that the passenger in the side car was a dog with goggles on his head. Not something you see every day.

On Monday, January 5th, we visited a nearby store - Wally's World. This is one of those stores that if they don't have it, you didn't need it. It was fun to look at all the items in the store. They had household items, games, lawn ornaments, nuts and bolts, and parts for RV's.

We traveled a little farther west on Interstate 8 and went into California. We passed by some sand dunes and could see the tracks from the dune buggies. Luckily it wasn't windy that day so the road didn't get blown over with the sand. We turned around after a few miles and then drove over to the border crossing at Los Algodones. We didn't enter Mexico, just wanted to see the checkpoint. We also saw part of the "border wall".
