It’s been very warm here in Yuma. About 10-15 degrees warmer than normal. But we haven’t turned on the air conditioning in the motorhome too much.
Debbie has been doing some sewing these past few weeks. She has sewn another lap robe quilt top and six table runners. The table runners are supposed to only take 10 minutes, but it takes me about an hour to make one. Maybe I’m doing too much pinning and ironing?? But they have turned out good for a person of my sewing skills.
Brian has continued the Plus workshops at the dance hall on Monday afternoons. The dancers have improved their skills and should be ready for the festival on February 13-15.

The time for the festival finally arrived and on Friday night, there were over 15 squares out on the dance floor. Buddy Weaver and Jerry Junck were the callers for the festival. There were dancers from many corners of Arizona, California, and other nearby states. Oh yeah, Brian won the 50/50 drawing on Friday night and won $78.00.
Saturday morning there was a Plus Workshop where they taught some calls that were new to many dancers. Then after a break for lunch, they called a regular dance for an hour and a half. Then after a supper break, we changed clothes and headed to the evening dance. Again, there were over 15 squares on the dance floor most of the evening.
Sunday morning was a short dance that included new dancers who had been taking lessons with the Yuma club. It was their first time dancing with this many people and with live callers. They are using a recording that Buddy makes each week. So they got to see him in person for the first time.
Here is a picture of one of Brian’s alternate dance partners and her husband. He doesn’t come to the dances on Tuesday, so Brian has been dancing with her when she doesn’t have another partner. This is Nancy and her husband Frank.

Brian and I went to Mexico along with our campground neighbors, John and Karen. We walked around the town of Los Algodones. This town is mostly for American/Canadian tourists. The stores are mostly pharmacies, dentists and small kiosks that seem to sell the same items no matter where they are located. We did have lunch in the plaza before leaving back to Yuma.

On the 19th, we went to Cracker Barrel to celebrate Sandy’s birthday. Even though we aren’t together, we can celebrate her birthday at the same restaurant as normal.

The weekend of the 20th-22nd we traveled to Tucson for a meeting and a dance on Saturday afternoon. We decided to leave on Friday so that we didn’t have to rush to get to Tucson. Between Yuma and Gila Bend, there were several VW buses going towards Yuma. We met several dancers who said they will come to Show Low during the summer so we will see some of them again. On the way back from Tucson, we drove by Rooster Cogburn’s Ostrich Farm. There appeared to be several types of animals there. We also stopped in Dateland. The town is famous for growing Medjool dates. At the rest stop you can get a Date Shake. They also have some souvenirs about the town and the dates that they grow. On the way back to Yuma from Gila Bend, we saw those same VW buses going eastbound.
