On Friday the 5th, we went with the White Mountain Rim Rompers square dance club to supper in Snowflake, AZ before heading to Winslow, AZ for a dance. We met up with the Thunder Valley Twirlers at a park for the dance. Darren Gallina was the featured caller for the evening. He invited all the other callers in attendance to do one tip together.

Even though the daytime temperature was very warm, it cooled off that night, so it was comfortable for being outside. The club took a picture by the Flatbed Ford (made famous in the song by the Eagles) and a picture by the stage after the dance.

Saturday the 6th was Brian first dance of the season. There were just over three squares in attendance with three square dancing most of the night. One dancer from the Yuma club and one couple that used to live in Minnesota came to the dance. The dancers appeared to be having a great time, and much laughter was heard throughout the evening.

Brian starts Mainstream lessons on the 9th and the Plus lessons on the 15th, along with a dance most Saturday evenings. He will be a very busy caller!
On Monday afternoon of the 8th, Brian and I went for pedicures. This was my first pedicure, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. But it was relaxing to sit there and have someone else take care of me for a while. Hopefully, I wasn’t too ticklish as the technician rubbed the bottom of my feet. Now I know what to expect if I ever get one again.
We also drove over to Taylor, AZ to look at another laundromat. It’s quite a bit further than the one that we have been going to, but it is much larger and seems to have some more seating. Small tables with bench seats on all four sides. We may try this new one the next time we need to do laundry even though it is much further away. The one that we have been using is very cramped and has seating for only five people so we sat in the car while waiting for the washers to complete their cycles. When we did laundry on Tuesday, almost all the machines were in use, and several were not working.
Tuesday evening was the first night of square dance lessons in Show Low. Brian wore his special t-shirt from Sandy.

There were five squares dancing during the lessons. Several club members were on hand to fill out the squares as needed and to help the new students as they learned the calls. Brian had the dancers laughing with his jokes and they learned the steps easily. We hope they will return on Thursday for the next lesson. One of the couples was originally from Minnesota and recognized us. Al and Shirley Peterson danced with the Westonka Whirlers at one time. Also, a dancer from Yuma who spends the summer in Show Low, Jan, attended the dance that evening.

Since we don’t have to be at the dance hall on Wednesday, we decided to take a drive to Globe, AZ. We went through a couple of mountain ranges along the way. We thought we were going to find a location named “Little Grand Canyon”, but we couldn’t find it. We did see several mountain views along the way to Globe.
Here’s a look at the road map of the highway we followed from the truck’s GPS. Not very straight and several drop-off along the way.

We stopped at a rest stop along they way at the Salt River Canyon.

We ate lunch in Globe at the La Luz Del Dia restaurant. When we parked to go to lunch, I saw this sign on a building.

Not sure if it’s true or not. Otherwise, we didn’t do any shopping in Globe. Too bad, it looked like there was a quilt/fabric shop in town. Or at least there was one at one time. On the way back, we stopped at an overlook and Brian took a couple of pictures from the overlook.

The dancing on Thursday night had six squares dancing. One of the outside doors got opened to allow some airflow in the dance hall. A tiny gecko hopped into the dance hall right by me. I’m NOT a fan of geckos. Another gecko came into the room after the dance. They were both “shown the door”!

We took Friday off to run some errands, otherwise, we pretty much just hung around the motorhome. It rained several times on Saturday. There was a rainbow after the rain in the evening. Many dancers went outside to look at the rainbow. We went to Dairy Queen after the dance for supper and almost hit a fat skunk on the way back. Luckily, we saw it in time, and it lived to see another day. Sunday was another gloomy, rainy day so we stayed home.
Brian started with Plus Lessons on Monday night with two squares on the dance floor. He started with reviewing calls that moved up from the Mainstream List and introduced some calls that moved down from the Advanced list. Tuesday night had five squares on the dance floor. This was the last night to bring in new people.
Wednesday was a busy day for us. I worked on my Diamond Dot project in the morning while the sun was shining in the window. Brian planned his Saturday dance, arranged for our stay in Alamo, TX for next winter, called Parshall, ND to verify his burial place and he ordered our mail to be sent from South Dakota. Thursday night had five squares dancing with 19 new dancers/students. Friday was another relaxing day after doing laundry in the morning and leaving some money at the grocery store.
On Saturday the 20th, I finished my craft project. Now, have to get a new one! The club had a potluck supper before the dance. Lots of good food, as usual with square dance potlucks. There were two squares dancing after supper.
One afternoon, we went to the home of one of the Rim Rompers couples, Cheryl and Carl. Brian had put out an email asking if any club members had a drill press. We needed some small holes drilled in our new Callerlab badges. They had answered him indicating that Carl had one in his garage and that we could stop over when it was convenient. We were able to go over there on Sunday, the 26th. Brian and Carl went into their garage while Cheryl and I went into the dining room for conversation while waiting for the guys to finish. Afterwards, the guys joined the ladies in the dining room for more conversations. We thoroughly enjoyed their company and stayed longer than we had planned.
We had planned on going grocery shopping afterwards, but it was getting late, so we stopped at Dairy Queen for supper. That seemed to take longer than it should have, but the food was fresh and hot. Upon returning to the motorhome, we saw a skunk running away from the dance hall and a deer around the corner of the dance hall. As we proceeded carefully to the motorhome, the deer ran to the back of the dance hall and joined three other deer. They just stared at us as we parked the truck beside the motorhome. We had not seen any wildlife around the motorhome yet, so it was fun to see that many deer up close.
Brian took the truck into the RV repair shop to have them look at the driver’s side taillight. One of the brake lights kept burning out. They were able to research the issue and get it fixed. We went to supper that night with Al and Shirley. We went to a local restaurant, Buffalo Bills. It has a western theme in both the restaurant and the brewery. The location has several stuffed buffalos, buffalo heads and a western museum. The food was good and we stayed for two hours talking about things back in Minnesota. We stayed until they closed the restaurant.

On the way back to the motor home, we could see what looked like an approaching storm. There were several lightening flashes way off in the distance. We were hoping for some rain at the dance hall, but alas, no rain came. So, it’s still very dry around the dance hall.
We drove into town on Thursday this past week to get Brian some new pants. We had a leak in the bleach bottle, and two pairs of pants got bleach spilled on them. There is a J.C. Penny’s store along White Mountain Road and he found two pairs in his size. Brian got his hair cut that day too. There was a waiting list for his haircut, so we went to the J.C. Pennys while waiting for his appointment.
