We left our parking spot in Bloomington just before 9:00 on the morning of the 28th. We stopped in Ellsworth IA for lunch and discovered that one of the roads we were driving on was the Morman Pioneer Trail. We drove through a couple of really small towns, Weldon and Leroy, on the way to Doug and Judy McCart’s farm. We were able to park the motorhome in their driveway overnight, so we didn’t have to find a hotel or campground. We met their dog, Hunter, who is a German Shepherd, and very friendly. Doug was just returning from nine holes of golf as we got there. Doug and Judy cooked us supper of steaks, potatoes, salad and asparagus. We all had some homemade ice cream for dessert. No one left that meal hungry! We sat and talked until way too late if you ask me.
The next morning, Judy had cooked us breakfast of eggs, sausage and bacon, orange juice and coffee. We said our final “Thank You’s” and we headed west on our way to Wellington, KS. We got the motorhome parked, moved what needed to be moved so we could sleep in it. Along the way we saw a very old Hy-Vee grocery store in Leon, KS. It looked nothing like the new grocery stores they are building today. We got lots of rain while driving in the Kansas City area. The motorhome and the truck got a good bath to wash off the dust from the gravel road by Doug & Judy’s home. Now we need to wash all the new dirt off the vehicles. But that will wait until we get settled in Arizona.
On Saturday the 29th, we left Wellington and headed south again and our next overnight stay in Shamrock, TX. We drove through the Kansas Turnpike, through Oklahoma (Brian, I don’t think we’re in Kansas any longer). Along the way, we saw many oil wells and farms of sheep, cattle and pigs. There also were several groups of those giant windmills. We passed over Minihaha Creek and Nine Mile Creek, both of which are also located in/near Bloomington. We got to the Texas Route 66 campground in the late afternoon. We sat for a little bit then went to do laundry. Both machines were being used, so we drove into town for supper. Shamrock is on the Old Route 66 and you could see the shells of several once glorious buildings. We stopped to take some pictures of the Conoco gas station shown in the movie Cars. Back at the motorhome to write this update and Brian is starting to plan his first dance in Show Low next Saturday.

On Sunday, the 30th, we travelled to Albuquerque for the night. We decided to spend the last day of traveling in a hotel at night. Brian found a Microtel that had room to park the motorhome/truck. We went across the street to Denny’s Restaurant for dinner. It was nice to have a “real” shower after using the one in the motorhome all these past months. The bed was hard for Debbie to climb into due to its height, but it was comfortable. We grabbed a quick breakfast in the lobby and headed to Show Low, Arizona, our summer location.
We parked the motorhome for the night at the back of the dance hall and settled in for the night. In the morning, we drove into town to fill up the propane tank and returned to the dance hall and got the motorhome leveled and got hooked up to electricity, water and sewer. We ran some errands in the afternoon and relaxed for the rest of the day.
